Ruth Vaughan
Ruth Vaughan joined the Department of Equity and Civil Rights Compliance as Assistant Director of Equity Investigations in early 2023. In this role, she addresses complaints of discrimination on the basis of protected class characteristics across Emory and supports the broader initiatives of the office by conducting trainings, collaborating with campus partners, and developing key priorities for policy and protocol implementation. Prior to joining Emory, she was a Senior Staff Attorney with the Victim Rights Law Center, a nonprofit dedicated to providing free civil legal services to victims of sexual assault. She focused on education law and provided national training and technical assistance as part of the Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) campus grant program. Ruth also previously worked as Staff Attorney at Northeast Legal Aid where she represented elderly and impoverished community members in housing and consumer matters, and as a Legal Fellow with the Institute for Justice & Democracy in Haiti.
Ruth is a proud alumna of Emory University, where she received her B.A. in Religion and was a Bobby Jones Scholar. She holds an M.A. in Religion with a concentration in Ethics from Yale Divinity School and a J.D. from the University of Connecticut with a Certificate in Human Rights.
