Rich Hura
As a Civil Rights Investigator for the Department of Equity and Civil Rights Compliance, Rich provides unbiased, neutral, and trauma informed investigative services for Emory University. In this role, he investigates staff, faculty, and student complaints of discrimination and/or harassment. Rich joined Emory in May of 2025.
Rich’s higher education experience began when he served as the Director of Compliance and Risk Management for Westminster College in New Wilmington, PA. Prior to this, Rich served as both the Trauma Informed Care Coordinator for Mahoning County Juvenile Court and the Dean of Students for Mahoning Valley Community School (a trauma informed practices K-12 school). Before this, as an Ohio attorney, Rich operated his own law practice with a concentration on family law, adoptions, and criminal defense. He was a public defender for Columbiana County assigned to the felony court docket. He has zealously advocated for children as their Guardian Ad Litem in both the domestic relations and juvenile courts conducting extensive investigations on their behalf. Rich’s first career was that of a high school English teacher.
Rich earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of Akron School of Law, his Master of Education in School Counseling from Westminster College, and his Bachelor of Science in Education from Bowling Green State University.
